602 - Summary of 'You've Got Mail Task'

For one of the PPP tasks we were asked to identify a range of practitioners who's work we admire, with the aims of then following up on our interest and sending them something preferably physical in the post - after Alec's previous session about making a good first impact on people, I decided to follow up on this and create my own animated gif handle which could feature on all my emails when approaching creatives.

Although not physical, it is an interactive and hard-hitting personalised way of catching someones attention as they scan through their emails so I decided to bend the rules in my favour a bit to stay true to my digital/motion approach to the year so far..

I noted down 12 designers/animators who's work I have recently or always admired and sent them all a nice e-mail..

Although most did not reply for weeks, I persevered with the gif and kept making use of it. It was actually through an instagram conversation which eventually moved to email I was able to catch the eye of animator Andy Baker - an illustrator/animator at Studio Moross - http://www.andy-baker.com/

After sending him the gif and asking him a few questions regarding his animation process from a post he'd put up, he was more than happy to give me some advice and continue the chat on email.

He gave me some good advice regarding the new Adobe App - 'Animate'. And proceeds telling me how it is an easy way of creating old-school frame-by-frame animation reasonably quickly.
He also said he was open to me sending him some examples of my work and projects too, which is something I will definitely follow up on later in the year once I have more work under my belt.
