Surrealist Collage

Surrealist Collage
28 / 02 / 16

Of late, I have found myself looking for hours at very surrealist styled collages, be it digital or manual, but I absolutely lovely the whole concept behind it and the deeper meanings that can be generated from almost randomly selecting different pieces of articles/photographs to paste on top of one another to create something new! My instagram feed especially has become filled with works from the..

the.daily.splice, fragmentapp, mr.babies, stockandrender, natehill, trashriot & especially slimesunday

Whom all create very surrealist styled collage from old vintage mags or whatever else they can get they're hands on - digitally aswell.

It has really started to become something that I am passionate about and want to experiment with myself and bring it in the various aspects of my work. I got a couple of books out of the library on the topic and they are as follows: The Collage Workbook, by Randel Plowman & Collage, by Danielle Krysa...

After reading through both and looking at the inspirations inside I have decided I do want to start trying to collect pieces of obsolete media that I see strewn about, and I hopefully will get to start scanning them in and experimenting with them on photoshop or even through analogue process if I find enough materials.

I've already put a folder in my bag dedicated to keeping scraps that I find in and to make the images more personal I have started to go through old photos on my laptop and a few that I have lying around my room at uni. The coolest idea would be to get all the old photo albums out when I'm home, e.g. family weddings, events and produce responses to those!

Inspirations I have found..
