My preparation for the presentation involved thinking about how I planned to summarise my academic year and effectively satisfy each bullet point specified in the brief (outline)
I should aim to understand who I am as a learner and as a Graphic Designer
- as well as how the things I have experienced over the past 9 months have affected my current aims and ambitions.
- also identify creative concerns, personal aims and professional ambitions that you intend to explore further over the Summer and during Level 6 of the programme.
Overview of my engagement with the “real-world”
- Vapour - interview/placement?
- Evidence chatting with creatives on Behance
- Glug was my favourite and most useful talk
- Sorted my Behance which led to sending work out with more confidence
- Outline Responsive briefs and how they developed me (build into the next bullet point (w/professional mockups)
- Discuss the freelance work I have done (build into next point again) - discuss lessons learnt (Mercia & C'est Blessed work)
- Secret 7 got cancelled
Overview of my practice
- Choose favourite pro mockups off my behance
- Especially Penguin, Papyrus
- Discuss how I started fresh with illustration and starting developing my passion and skills from who I'm inspired by
- This built into motion graphics and my exploration in Design for Screen (OnYerBike! response) and 503 collaborative (Moving tattoos project - Monotype)
- Business cards for Potent Creative & for Liv Fowler
- Identity for C'est Blessed and event design for Mercia
- Illustrators I'm inspired by - Jeremy Booth, Chris Reath, Borja Bonaque
- Motion studios like Laundry, Tom Haugomat
Overview of my learning
- Look at the Study Task with Penny Lee from 1st year - How have I changed since then?
- I was slightly obsessed with the swiss, minimal sans serif design style but this year I decided to broaden the banks and not be afraid to experiment with serifs and more of the traditional side to design where appropriate!
- From the study task reference the dance music industry - all the design for the events and how I was really getting involved, and actually DJing.
- But it died out, my focus became on design as a broader term
- Stress lessons learnt about how to approach clients from my freelance, and from experiencing Vapour.
Overview of the future
- Plans for the Summer: Vapour/Inter-marketing Placement, Thailand and chill!
- Plans for Level 06: Start to narrow down more on Branding, Illustration, Motion/Animation, App Design, Editorial/Book design
Presenter Considerations
- I want minimal/if any text on my slides - full attention drawn to the content in the centre - use relevant and intelligent aiding images including gifs for interaction
- Will avoid a notebook as well as want to engage more with the crowd.
- Decided to hook it up to my own laptop and use Presenter Notes on Keynote so every time I turn to change the slide I can briefly look at my overview bullet points on the laptop screen. This will free me up to make eye contact, hand gestures and try to be more fluid in general with the presentation - as previously I have kept to my script too much and it felt impersonal.
- In terms of tone of voice I want to 100% be myself to make the audience most comfortable with me. Will indicate professionalism yet in an approachable funny way
