Water Lane Boathouse Opening Party
Friday 28th April 2017
4pm onwards / Free entry / Free drink

After a month of work and preparation, it was the refurb and grand opening of
Water Lane Boathouse. And I was very excited to go and take a look on the day of the Opening Party!

Situated on Canal Wharf on the South side of the Leeds-to-Liverpool canal, the Boathouse was originally built in the early 1800's as a shipment warehouse and later changed to a granary until the early 20th century. Following that, the building underwent several transformations and was home to some great restaurants in the 90's, such as Heathcotes and Rascasse which was run for the majority of time by Simon Gueller (now Box Tree, Ilkley).

The building is now under the ownership of the guys behind Belgrave Music Hall, Headrow House and Super Friendz, so I was set to expect a great selection of beers and gins, excellent food and awesome music. And to be honest, it was nothing far short of that!

There was a diverse group of people at the Opening Night ranging from local creatives I could recognise, to other young and old professionals.

I was thoroughly keen on the whole brand identity and theme of the whole place.
The whole minimal, wooden theme inside matches the very simplistic vectorised design which has been partnered with it.

The front sign is hard-hitting and sleek, and throughout the identity the very charismatic and bright yellow feels very trendy and summer-y!

I was particularly drawn into it all by the social media accounts - specifically the instagram.
Setting the trend for the whole minimal style, they represented that not only through the clever logo, but each day running up to the opening party they released one of the other cute little linear icons with different details and promotions captioning each of them.
This was effective campaigning - consistently appearing on my feed each day, subtly interacting with me and planting it in my mind.  I can take inspiration from this simple technique in the future...
