I am really drawn to the sharper, stripped back illustration style and the use of composition and a stricter colour palette - above by Michelle Mildenberg.
But I also love the use of shadows and layers of colour to create the depth in the illustrations by Petra Erikson beneath. This where experimentation with a grainier texture can come into play too.
Considered some other influential artists to me..
- Sarah Alice Rabbit
- Her style builds more of a gap between stripped back details on the face, yet lots of vibrant mood-setting colour and an element of realism added through the use of shadows.
- Mason London (Joe Prytherch)
- a textured approach to the more pastel-y colours - Creates shapes with the blocks of colour with no borders, and then adds contrasting detailing for facial features, creasing in clothing and shadows, etc.
